What a shock to read the Home Affairs Ministry’s statement that “all accusations by third parties have been withdrawn” with regard to the alleged domestic violence incident involving former assistant police commissioner Mario Tonna.

This leads one to believe that the matter is closed. If this is the case, is the ministry not aware that a Bill is before Parliament to incorporate the provisions of the Istanbul Convention into Maltese law?

In particular, I refer to the article which clearly states that, even if a report is withdrawn, the authorities (police) are bound to investigate anyway.

What do Home Affairs Minister Michael Farrugia, Equality Minister Helena Dalli, and the Prime Minister have to say about this shameful contradiction?

Hopefully, if a reply is forthcoming, it will not be that the Bill has not as yet been enacted.

When oh when will the people who mess up in such a blatant manner be held responsible for their utterances?

Maybe Martin Scicluna will enlighten us in his contribution to this paper next week.
