Every time we visit St Paul’s Bay we are reminded of the arrival of St Paul in Malta. He probably landed at Ta’ l-Għażżenin, near Wignacourt’s Tower.

Malta is without doubt proud of the fact that St Paul visited our island, and that it has a town and a bay named after the saint.

But Rhodes is also proud of the arrival of Paul at Lindos. In the Acts of the Apostles, Luke wrote: “The following day they passed to Cape Triopium and landed at Rhodes.”

According to local tradition, the ship carrying the apostle arrived in the small harbour  at the foot of the Acropolis of Lindos, where pilgrims for centuries worshiped Athena  Lindia. Today, the small harbour is still known as St Paul’s Harbour.

A small chapel was named after St Paul  to commemorate his arrival there and his preaching of the Gospel to the people of Lindos  on the island of Rhodes.

Both  Malta  and Lindos can boast of their bays dedicated to St Paul.
