I refer to the front page story entitled ‘Fresh PN strife on Premier’, (The Sunday Times of Malta, January 7).
A few years back the Nationalist government had instituted legal proceedings to take Café Premier back, as the tenant never paid any rent.
After there was a change in administration the Labour government dropped the case and paid over €4 million from taxpayers’ money for the premises. The Nationalist Party in Opposition was in uproar and accused the government of bad governance.
However, that is history.
The week before last the former Café Premier was officially opened as the new premises of the Valletta local council. Representatives of the government and Opposition were happily drinking together on this occasion, but the happiest person was obviously the one who made so much money from the sale of the building.
I was shocked to see the Nationalist Party deputy leader, David Agius, among those celebrating the opening of the Valletta local council offices. I would like to know how many PN MPs approved of his presence and whether party leader Adrian Delia gave his consent to this.
It certainly looks like the PN is still very much a divided party.
