It is an undisputed fact that the lower part of Victoria’s Republic Street is more often than not burdened with traffic jams, especially during holiday periods and particularly throughout the summer season.

In my opinion, a practical and inexpensive solution may remedy the situation by declaring Ninu Cremona Street, which luckily leads to Victoria’s bus terminus, a two-way road.

As a result, most of public and private buses entering and leaving the terminus will not have to use Republic Street, thereby eliminating the traffic jams from the city’s main road.

I have every reason to presume that such a move would not raise any eyebrows because it does not entail any substantial expenditure to the public exchequer.

Furthermore, to help ease matters, the wide pavement on one side can be easily narrowed, thereby eliminating any teething problems.

I hope Transport Malta is aware that Victoria is an exception to most European cities since it does not enjoy a single pedestrian area in its core.

Should my proposal be adopted, it might one day spur the authorities to help in the introduction of this essential and popular commodity.
