After all the hype about the City of Culture celebration for 2018, what a bitter disappointment it is to witness the dire promotional material to support it.

The name of our esteemed capital city has been cut into two separate words which, in some cases, look like “Valli” and “Etta”, depending on the colour of the background on the plastic banners etc.

The pennants on various flagpoles, including St Anne Street, made from what appears to be the cheapest possible fabric, hang limply like faded old knickers on a clothes line.

With our stupendous and glorious heritage as a capital city, surely someone could have come up with a more inspiring and rich design. The humblest village feast banner designer could have done better.

No doubt, some cool whiz kid has had praise heaped on him for this pathetic presentation.
