An adult and a child were hospitalised early on Tuesday morning after being slightly injured as a result of turbulence on a Ryanair flight to Malta.

Another three suffered minor injuries.

The flight had departed from Liverpool and hit turbulence over Milan.

Ryanair said in a statement the captain called ahead to request medical assistance to stand by on arrival.

The aircraft maintained course and landed in Malta safely.

The five customers were met by medics upon arrival in Malta, the company said.

Technical staff are checking the aircraft.
