The government is studying the way Iceland recently implemented equal pay for equal work, Labour leader Joseph Muscat said today.

Speaking at the Labour Party's annual New Year gathering, the prime minister said the government wanted to begin exploring how to reduce the gender pay gap and was looking to learn from other countries' experience.

The government, he said, recognized that this would be a major reform and would consult employers to facilitate it.

The Prime Minister was giving an overview of the main items on the Labour government's agenda for 2018.

Infrastructural projects were high on the list, he said, focusing on the resurfacing of the roads.

The government was looking at cutting edge digital infrastructure in the form of cryptocurrencies, and had social reforms planned, like the introduction of medical marijuana.

Another reform will reduce the voting age to 16.
