A man and a woman were accused of theft from an Iklin carwash on Sunday after having been allegedly caught in the act on CCTV.

The footage was uploaded to social media.

Colin Galea, 26 of Qajjenza, was accused of having on two consecutive evenings, on January 4,5 targeted the carwash station in l-Iklin making off with an indeterminate amount of cash on both occasions, whilst causing some €10,154 in damages to machinery.

His alleged partner in crime, a 44-year old unemployed woman whose name cannot be published under court order, was charged separately with having committed a theft from the same car wash station on the evening of January 4, whilst causing some €5360 in damages to the machinery.

The man was further charged with having breached previous bail conditions.

The two pleaded not guilty, but whereas no request for bail was made on behalf of Mr Galea, a request for release from custody was made on behalf of the woman.

Duty magistrate Doreen Clarke, granted bail to the woman against a personal guarantee of €2,000.

Inspectors Mark Mercieca and Roderick Spiteri prosecuted.

Lawyers Mario Mifsud and Martha Mifsud were defence counsel to Mr Galea.
