The highly-awaited encounter between the current joint-leaders of the championship did not shifted the positions of either side as Birkirkara and Hibernians ended in a goalless stalemate last Thursday, at the Charles Abela Stadium.

As the first round comes to an end this week, both the Stripes and the Paolites will be keen to extend their positive streak ahead of the second round commitments, where the task of staying at the top of the ladder will become more demanding.

Birkirkara will now take on Kirkop United while Hibernians will lock horns with Mosta.

Mġarr United profited from this draw as they moved six points behind the top two after chalking up an impressive 4-0 victory over Kirkop United. The Greens forged ahead through Amber Grech and broke little sweat to add three more goals through Claudette Xuereb, Roxanne Micallef and Rachel Pace. The Reds are now lying fifth with 11 points.

Fgura United claimed their second win of the season after beating Swieqi United by the odd goal in seven. Swieqi took a 3-2 lead within the first 19 minutes with a quick flurry of goals coming from Ilenia Navarro and Marie Claire Alamango for Fgura while Yolande Attard twice and Kate Galea for the Oranges. After the break, Alamano restored parity with Janice Pace adding a late goal to seal the win for Fgura.

Meanwhile, Tarxien Rainbows overtook Swieqi at third from bottom, after defeating Mosta 2-0 following goals from Kailey Willis and Chloe Ann Ellul. Mosta are still seeking their first points in this championship.
