Mqabba's St Benedict College primary school has been turned into a Christmas wonderland thanks to the hard work of students, teachers and staff.

Wallpapered walls feature teaching staff 'elves' and young student 'reindeer'; classroom doors are an array of colour; even toilet cisterns have been turned into paper snowmen.

"Everybody (and by everybody we truly mean everybody, from the eldest to the tiniest one, be it pupils, teachers or staff) was on a mission" over the past weeks, the school said on its Facebook page. "Finally the wait is over, and we can reveal to you our Christmas project for this year!"

Kindergarten assistant Bernice Graham told Times of Malta that the idea behind the project began germinating last October.

"After discussing with colleagues, we came up with the idea of turning the main school corridor into a sort of Santa's workshop," she said.

Staff and students worked long hours during art sessions and even stayed on after school hours to transform the school, she added.

"This is our school's annual surprise for the Mqabba community, parents and guests," Ms Graham said.

Last year, St Benedict College Mqabba primary students designed their own models of Christmas-decorated houses instead of traditional cribs. Individual houses were then formed into a 'Christmas village' surrounding the traditional Bethlehem nativity scene.

Ms Graham thanked sponsors Sierra stationery, C&G hardware store, The Fruit Shop and Bits of Glitz for making it possible to turn the project plans into a reality, as well as musicians Bernie & Pod for allowing the school to use their song 'Int u jien dal-Milied' ['You and I this Crhistmas'] in their video.
