I would like to recount a very bad experience I had with Ryanair where I was fleeced of a €100 Ryanair gift voucher.
In December 2016 I received a Ryanair gift voucher for €100 as a Christmas present from my daughter and her fiancé. Around February I booked a Ryanair flight to Athens, registration no: GMJST departing Malta on May 13, 2017, at 3.40pm. At the time of booking I had completely forgotten about the gift voucher, hence I had not redeemed it when I made the booking. A few days later I remembered about the gift voucher and contacted Ryanair through its live chat service.
After giving all the information I had been asked to give, finally the reply was that I couldn’t get a refund since refunds are not allowed on gift vouchers. However, I was informed by Ryanair’s online agent that I could redeem the voucher on my next booking throughout 2017 before the voucher expires on December 24, 2017, even if I book a flight for 2018.
So a few days ago I tried to book a Ryanair flight to Porto, Portugal. When I clicked on the button to redeem the gift voucher, I received a surprise message: “This gift voucher has already been used.” So I immediately contacted the online chat service once again and explained what had happened.
Once again I was asked for personal and other details. After quite some time, I was asked for details of the e-mail I had received from Ryanair at the time of booking, something which I couldn’t produce as I do not keep such records.
Hence, the final reply was that they couldn’t help me in my claim and I did not continue with the booking of the flight to Porto.
Had I been robbed by a pickpocket I would have blamed myself, but to be fleeced in this way by such an international airline beggars belief!
