BNF Bank plc has announced the appointments of Adrian Coppini as chief operating officer and Maruska Buttiġieġ Gili as chief risk officer of the Bank.

Mr Coppini joined BNF Bank plc, formerly Banif Bank (Malta) plc, at its inception.

Leading the Bank’s human resources and corporate services department, he held responsibilities in people management, properties, administration, marketing and communications. Additionally, he served on the Bank’s executive committee and board.

He has held several senior management positions in the airline, electronics and investment promotion sectors. He was chief officer of HR and corporate services at Air Malta plc, managing director at Ero Electronic (Malta) Limited and executive company secretary at Malta Enterprise Limited, among others. He also served as the board director of Air Malta plc and Société Internationale de Télécommunications Aéronautiques (SITA), and was elected SITA Council deputy president.

He currently serves on the board of governors of the Sacred Heart College Foundation, where he chairs its finance committee.

Mr Coppini holds a degree in business management from the University of Malta.

Ms Buttiġieġ Gili also joined BNF Bank plc at its inception, setting up the Bank’s compliance and internal audit functions. She also occupied the roles of money laundering reporting officer and compliance officer.

Subsequently, Ms Buttiġieġ Gili was appointed head of the internal control department responsible for the legal and compliance unit, the risk control and oversight unit and the credit analysis unit.

Prior to joining the Bank, Ms Buttiġieġ Gili worked at the Central Bank of Malta for over 12 years. During this period, she occupied various positions within the Bank’s human resources and economic statistics departments. Ms Buttiġieġ Gili represented the Central Bank of Malta on various working groups of the European Central Bank in relation to statistics.

Ms Buttiġieġ Gili graduated in financial services (UMIST) and holds a Masters in economics from the University of Malta.

Ms Buttiġieġ Gili and Mr Coppini join Michael Collis, BNF Bank’s chief executive officer and managing director, as members of the Bank’s executive management team.
