Charmaine Schembri was recently conferred a Master of Science in Health Studies (Clinical Practice) with Merit by the University of Dundee.

For her dissertation, Ms Schembri conducted a systematic review of the information patients are provided prior to undergoing elective knee or hip replacement surgery. She concluded that the information provided was useful, making them more confident and less anxious about their operation.

She recommended that the information should be given to patients a few weeks before admission and tailored according to their needs, adding that modern technology could be used to reinforce the learning process.

Schembri’s studies were funded by the Endeavour Scholarships Scheme, 2016.
