As part of the Spazju Kreattiv programme, Electronic Music Malta, the Women’s Rights Foundation and the Malta Sound Women Network, are presenting the screening of the documentary film A Life in Waves.

It explores the life and innovations of composer and electronic music pioneer Suzanne Ciani. The film is a journey into Suzanne’s mind, offering a feminine glimpse into the often complicated world of electronic music. It features her earliest days learning the piano to her multimillion dollar advertising ventures and her successes in the world of New Age music, to her recent reconnection with her beloved Buchla synthesiser.

Utilising a wealth of archival footage and her endless catalogue of music, A Life in Waves is a nostalgic, visually-compelling look at one woman’s journey and the trials she overcame to succeed in a traditionally male-dominated art form.

As this event is a celebration of the active involvement of women in electronic music, the Malta Sound Women Network will be showcasing an installation and performance immediately before the film (installation opens at 7.30pm). The screening will be followed by a short talk/discussion facilitated by members of the Women’s Rights Foundation and Electronic Music Malta.

A Life in Waves is supported by the US Embassy.

The installation opens today at St James Cavalier, Valletta, at 7.30pm, with the screening of the documentary at 8pm. For more information and tickets, visit www.kreattivita.org.
