Allow me to reply very briefly to Salvu Felice Pace’s article ‘When Honesty Shone’ (December 1). It seems there are people who wish to create a mythical figure of the late Daphne Caruana Galizia after her brutal murder. Even projecting the late blogger as some paragon of “honesty”, as Felice Pace has done in his article.

Truth be told, there is another side of the coin which Felice Pace and others are trying to make people forget – Daphne’s obsession to try and destroy the career and reputation of those she politically hated. The vast majority of these people happened to be Labourites, particularly PL leaders, deputies and officials. But also, on rare occasions, PN people especially the new PN and Opposition leader.

I will only quote what Daphne had written on August 20, 2012 at 10.20pm, after she had  heard of Dom Mintoff’s death.

Accompanied by a picture of Mintoff and Lorry Sant, Daphne wrote: “Glory, glory Alleluiah, may you rot in hell, you couple of heinous  bastards... How very considerate of Mr Mintoff to make this one of my best birthdays ever... He should counthimself lucky he died inhis bed and not like his godawful friend across the water (Muammar Gaddafi), which he truly deserved. Now excuse me while I go out to celebrate.”

To conclude, Daphne’s admirers keep quoting comments she posted on her blog hours before she was brutally murdered. “Crooks are everywhere you look now. The situation is desperate.” I believe that Daphne must also have considered crooks those who failed to pay their taxes, as she said about Adrian Delia. But Daphne herself had been sued for failing to pay over €120,000 in taxes to our tax authorities. And that case is still ongoing.

The above is the side of the coin which Felice Pace and others do not wish people to be reminded of. Still, may the perpetrator/s of Daphne’s heinous murder be caught and brought to justice. We all agree on that.
