A man who recently caused a commotion in Birkirkara when he allegedly threatened the estranged mother of his young child and later violently resisted arrest was remanded in custody.

The man was arraigned over a string of charges related to the incident including threatening the police, refusing to obey their orders, driving his car in a reckless and dangerous manner and damaging a police vehicle.

The aggressor was also charged with harassing, insulting and threatening his former partner, causing her to fear violence, breaching the peace, being drunk in public, breaching the conditions of a previous release and being a relapser.

The court heard how the man had kicked up a racket when the police intervened and smashed a police vehicle window.

After hearing the man plead not guilty and after hearing submissions by both parties, the court, presided over by Magistrate Neville Camilleri, turned down the request for bail on account of the accused’s apparent lack of trustworthiness.

Inspectors Elton Taliana and Nicholas Vella prosecuted. Lawyer Benjamin Valenzia was legal aid counsel.
