A letter requesting additional protection to MEPs visiting Malta to discuss the rule of law was shameful and offensive for Malta, Labour MEP Marlene Mizzi said.

Ms Mizzi wrote today in reply to the request made yesterday by the head of the European Popular Party, Manfred Weber. 

Ms Mizzi points out how Malta successful hosted a large number of EU meetings here when it held the EU presidency, and said Malta had not changed since then.

Therefore, she failed to understand his fear for the safety of the MEP delegation. "While I wish the MEP delegation a successful visit, I have no doubt that they will feel, and be safe," she wrote.
