Over 10,000 wishes were passed from the Żigużajg project The Wishing Thread to the Environment and Resources Authority (ERA), for consideration in the drafting of the National Strategy for the Environment.

The ERA will, over the coming year, be developing a National Strategy for the Environment, setting the vision and goals for Malta’s environment in consultation with stakeholders and the public.

Read: Heartful wishes

The Żigużajg project The Wishing Thread, by artist Manali Jagtap-Nyheim, transformed the Valletta cityscape with small groves of children’s wishes, trees and plants, indigenous to Malta.

Children wove coloured threads through the groves, attaching their wishes, hopes and aspirations for their loved ones to the trees. Over 10,000 children took part, with wishes for their families, as well as strong messages of hope for nature and the environment.
