The foundations are being laid in Montenegro for a 46 megawatt wind farm which has Maltese investors.

Energy Minister Joe Mizzi is currently visiting the project, which is the first being undertaken by International Renewable Energy Development Ltd (IRED), along with investors Enemalta Plc, Envision and Vestigo.

Twenty-three turbines of 2 megawatt each are currently being manufactured in China by Envision and should be dispatched to Montenegro by the first quarter of 2018.

The €70 million project covers an area of eight kilometres, to where access roads are also being built.

The investment is the result of the agreement signed Enemalta and Shanghai Electric Power four years ago.
