Russian organist Taras Baginets is today giving an organ recital at St Helen’s Basilica, Birkirkara, at 7.15pm as part of the Malta International Organ Festival.

Baginets, born in 1975, studied piano and organ with Serhiy Yushkevich at the Kharkiv Institute of Arts in Kharkiv, Ukraine. He did several masterclasses in Western Europe with, among others, Heinrich Walther (Germany), Michael Radulesku (Austria), Hans Fagius (Sweden), Zsigmund Zsatmary (Germany), and Ludger Lohmann (Germany). He won several prizes, both in Russia and abroad.

As of 2002 he is the organist of the Sverdlovsk State Philharmonic Society (Ekaterinburg, Russia). He has released several CDs and radio recordings. Since 2011, Baginets is also the art director of the annual Bach festival in Ekatarinburg.

Tomorrow, Estonian musicians Andres Uibo (organ) and Aare Tammesalu (cello) will again be accompanied by Chan Ka Bo (countertenor) from Hong Kong in a chamber music concert at St Paul’s Chapel, Brikirkara, at 8pm.
