As Malta's premier tertiary education institute, the University of Malta is no stranger to headlines. 

In this Times Talk interview, rector Alfred Vella defends Maltese as an eligibility requirement for prospective students, insists that Malta has one of the best performing universities worldwide and has his say on a controversial reform which would see the University purse strings controlled by "five wise men."
