Instead of celebrating victory by Pulse at the Junior College student council election in a civilised manner, students got drunk and started behaving Wild West style, going as far as damaging a police car and injuring a female officer who had to be hospitalised.

While wishing a speedy recovery to the officer, I cannot help condemn the bad behaviour of the students involved. When 16-year-olds are being given the right to vote because they are considered mature enough to choose the council/government for their own locality/country, what happened at the Junior College contrasts sharply. There is definitely no maturity in such unacceptable behaviour.

Yet, the students involved cannot be blamed 100 per cent because they follow the example of grown-ups (even those in power), who are not punished for any wrongdoings. Let me give a few examples.

Individuals given suspended sentences by the court were given promotions with a fat salary as if nothing had happened. We do not know what happened to that police officer who expressed satisfaction on Facebook after Daphne Caruana Galizia’s murder. Wo do not know whether former General Workers’ Union general secretary Tony Zarb was rebuked for the way in which he addressed members of Occupy Justice. It is not known either whether Żurrieq Labour mayor Natius Farrugia was reproached for his insensitivity when organising a “ħanżirata” on the day and hour of Caruana Galizia’s funeral.

Then we have Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando speaking against having a day of mourning for Caruana Galizia as well as the Police Commissioner and the Attorney General failing to take action against those who break the law.

I love my country but we are really living in a Mickey Mouse country where the law is not the same for all. It is business as usual... No wonder teenagers emerging from an educational college activity misbehave so badly.
