The government is pondering whether to introduce a new Gozo ferry in view of increased crossings to the sister island, Gozo Minister Justyne Caruana said this evening.

Speaking at a Gvern li jisma activity, the minister said such a decision would go hand in hand with a reorganisation of Mgarr Harbour so that it could handle the increased ferry traffic.

Plans for the introduction of a fast ferry service would also go ahead.

Gozo Channel currently operates three ferries. The Ta’ Pinu entered service in 2000, the Gaudos in 2001 and the Malita in 2002.

When questioned about the roads in Gozo, Dr Caruana said that apart from current road works, her ministry was studying the possibility of an alternative road between Mgarr and Ghajnsielem, and a ring road at Victoria (Rabat).

Other projects under consideration include a theme park in Gozo.
