SmartCity Malta insists that it was not involved in any talks with Marriott International over the building and/or operation of a hotel in Rinella.
SmartCity was reacting to a news item in the Times of Malta last week – ‘Top hotel chain slams SmartCity developers over “false publicity” ’ – in which hotel chain Marriott International rebutted publicity material distributed by Ricasoli Properties Limited which said that Marriott Hotels and Resorts were planning a 300-bed, five-star hotel at SmartCity Malta
Ricasoli Properties Limited are the property devel-opers behind The Shoreline project.
SmartCity Malta said it was not party to any discussions, “if there were any at all”, between Ricasoli Properties Limited and Marriott International.

It pointed out that it never mentioned Marriott International in any of its publicity material.
Ricasoli Properties Limited has signed a promise of sale agreement with SmartCity Malta for the acquisition of a site within SmartCity.
The final agreement for the transfer of the land was still to be concluded, SmartCity Malta said.
“SmartCity Malta is not party to any publicity material and claims made by Ricasoli Properties Limited to any of its potential clients, investors or business partners,” it said.
A spokesman for The Shoreline developers poin-ted out that although Marriott’s name appeared in an original Power Point presentation, no further mention had been made since.
