Robert Cutajar is the Nationalist Party's new whip, taking over from David Agius after the latter was elected deputy leader for parliamentary affairs.

PN leader Adrian Delia informed the party's parliamentary group of the decision at a meeting held this evening, the party said in a statement.

Times of Malta had revealed that Mr Cutajar was the front runner for the post yesterday. The party whip enforces discipline among MPs, ensuring they attend parliamentary sessions, scheduling their speaking time and ensuring MPs vote according to the party line.

Former Mellieħa mayor Mr Cutajar was first elected to parliament in 2013.
