Efforts to provide disadvantaged young pregnant women with a home are to receive a shot in the arm following a memorandum of understanding penned between the President's Trust and a UK-based charity.

The MOU will see Life Charity, which has four decades of experience in the field, help the Y-Assist programme launched last year develop programmes and technical procedures, as well as improve staff training.

Cooperation between the two entities began a year ago ahead of Y-Assist’s launch. The initiative, which is being run in partnership with the St Jean Antide Foundation, is already housing three young mothers at a recently-opened home.

As well as presiding over the MOU signing, President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca visited a further three hospitals in London today, meeting Maltese patients and doctors there.

President Coleiro Preca called on Royal Free Hospital, Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and St Mark’s Hospital.
