The ŻiguŻajg international festival for children and young people continues throughout this week and comes to an end on Sunday.

It features a trove of over 150 performances and workshops at various venues by critically acclaimed international and national companies.

Details are available at www.ziguzajg.org. Tickets may be purchased online or from St James Cavalier’s box office (tel. 2122 3200).

The following are a few highlights of the programme.

SoundPlay

SoundPlay is a workshop-based exploration of sounds, tones, vibrations and noises. Through the use of various media and instruments, this workshop will allow space for younger audiences to observe and experiment through the medium of music.

This should get the younger audiences (and also the older ones) clicking their heels and moving to the rhythm of the sound. The project is by Yasmin Kuymizakis and Jess Rymer, in collaboration with Electronic Music Malta.

Performance: Today at 4.30pm and 6.30pm, at Palazzo Verdelin, the Civil Service Sports Club, and at Studio B, St James Cavalier, Valletta. (Suitable for children aged 7+. Duration: 60 minutes. Language: English).

Land of the Big Word Factory

Imagine a land where all words are produced in a huge word factory. No word may be spoken unless it is bought and swallowed. In this world, the rich get to speak more often and use more powerful words. Poorer people cannot afford to buy these words and must use more common, less effective words, if they can afford any words at all. A young boy, Phileas, must find his own way of expressing his love for a young girl Cybele. But what can he do when he can only afford a few words?

Theatre Anon retells this tale through theatre, puppetry, music and live projections, in an adaptation of the album La Grande Fabrique de Mots, written by Agnes de Lestrade and illustrated by Valeria Docampo.

Performances at the Manoel Theatre Studio: Today and tomorrow at 6pm, Saturday at 11am and Sunday at 11am and 5pm. (Suitable for children aged 4+. Duration: 30 minutes. Language: English).
