Home Affairs Minister Michael Farrugia this evening could not give any information on investigations into the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia, more than a month ago.

The update was requested by Nationalist MP Simon Busuttil in a parliamentary question.

Dr Farrugia said two inquiries were under way, by the inquiring magistrate and the police.

He had no information about the magisterial inquiry. Furthermore, many of the experts brought to Malta by the police handed their reports to the magistrate and the police had no direct access to them unless the magistrate so decided.

The magistrate also had access to personal items belonging to Ms Caruana Galizia, but the police had no access to them unless requested to investigate particular matters. The experts came from the FBI, the Netherlands, and Europol, along with a UK expert.

Dr Farrugia said the police were continuing their investigations and involving foreign experts, sometimes at the magistrate’s request mostly for forensic details.

He as minister was not privy to such investigations but helped facilitate the availability of foreign experts to assist. It would be imprudent to give more information, not least because it could hinder the investigations.

Asked if another crime conference would be held by the police, Dr Farrugia said that when concrete and advanced progress was made, the police would hold such a conference.
