Roberta Metsola has been Malta's best-performing European Parliament member over the past three years, a ranking algorithm created by MEPRanking.eu suggests.

With an overall score of 95.9, Dr Metsola ranks 34th out of the EP's 750 members and first among Malta's six MEPs. Miriam Dalli, who scored 84.2, placed second among local MEPs and 57th overall.

Earlier this year, Dr Metsola was listed as one of '40 MEPs that matter' in a list compiled by European news outlet Politico.eu.

When scores are weighted and MEPs divided by member state, Malta's MEPs rank second overall across the EU, with an average value of 884.10. The EP average is 474.83.

The MEP Ranking algorithm takes into account each parliamentarian's reports, statements, roles and attendance record when calculating their effectiveness.

Marlene Mizzi comes in third among local MEPs, meaning Malta's three female European Parliamentarians outperform their male colleagues, according to the rankings.

Francis Zammit Dimech, who only joined the European Parliament in June after Therese Comodini Cachia was elected as a local MP, comes in last.

The ranking, which looks at activity dating back to June 2014 and is updated on a weekly basis, reveals the different strengths of Malta's various MEPs.

Marlene Mizzi, for instance, has asked more questions - 601 - than any other MEP, coming first overall for questions asked. She also ranks first among local MEPs when scores are weighted for productivity, with her 9.64 score placing her 12th overall among all MEPs.

Dr Dalli, on the other hand, dominates when it comes to involvement in drafting reports, having been involved in 14 since June 2014. Ms Mizzi and Alfred Sant, with 5 each, rank second in this category.

No other local MEP has provided more opinions - 12- than David Casa over the past three years, while Alfred Sant has diligently attended more than 98% of all plenary sessions. Dr Dalli, Dr Metsola and Ms Mizzi also have attendance records above 90%.

All local MEPs bar Dr Zammit Dimech have been present for more than 90% of MEP roll-call votes.
