One week after Times of Malta reported that the Tal-Qroqq subway was in a state of disrepair, lights inside the skate park tunnel have been brought back to life.

The tunnel is now illuminated. The tunnel is now illuminated.

University students last week complained that they did not feel safe when walking through the subway, with the lack of functioning light bulbs plunging the area into darkness.

The subway is intended to keep pedestrians safe, away from traffic at the busy intersections in the area. But according to students, it was having the opposite effect.

"Imagine walking through a dark and chilly tunnel not sure if there is anyone at the end of this darkness," the Gozo University Students Group had said. "Any feeling of security leaves you as soon as you enter since the lights do not work. Many students feel safer facing the busy roads above."

The complaints appear to have been noted, with one reader noting that the tunnel was illuminated on Sunday evening.

"It seems action has been taken," she told Times of Malta. "The lights are working again. I'd like to show thanks to the local council. Appreciation must be shown too."
