An annual average of 22,000 children are treated in the children's emergency section of Mater Dei Hospital, Health Minister Chris Fearne said on Saturday.

The section has been operating for two years, the minister said when addressing a seminar focusing on developments in pediatric care.

The minister also recalled his party's electoral pledge to build a hospital dedicated to women and children.
