Diana Camilleri from Ukraine is the winner of the third KitchenAid Cake Master Malta competition.

Her cake, inspired by the handmade textile Tilda dolls, was awarded the highest number of points among 10 finalists in a keenly-contested competition final held at the Forestals showroom in Mrieħel.

The 10 cakes participating in the final were judged on overall appearance, flavour, creativity and inside characteristics.

Diana’s creation was an almond cake with coconut meringue buttercream. Ingredients used included ground almonds, egg whites, almond & vanilla extract, buttermilk and coconut oil.

Diana used white chocolate ganache based on Lindt white chocolate to cover the cake, whilst the embellishment was done with white, blue and rose sugar paste, self made white flower paste, skin tone modelling paste, handmade pastillage and edible sugar lace.

The cake obtained 231 points from a possible total of 300.

The judges on the night were Joe Vella - Chef Consultant, Mario Mallia- Pastry Chef at CaterEssence and Brandan Vella – Pastry Chef at The Palace Hotel.

As the competition winner, Diana received a cheque for €500, whilst second placed Audrey Mifsud and Amanda Parnis in third place received €350 and €150 respectively. The top three placed contestants were also given a KitchenAid Artisan 4.8Litre mixer each.

All participants, including the ones who did not make it to the final, received a KitchenAid bag and utensils, together with a certificate of participation.

“We are once again extremely satisfied with the participation in our KitchenAid Cake Baking competition. For the third year running we have seen top-level cake creations and decorating from baking enthusiasts in Malta,” Pierre Zammit, Chief Operations Officer at Forestals Consumer, commented at the end of the final.
