HIBERNIANS          1

Failla 52

BIRKIRKARA         0

A Clayton Failla penalty early in the second ensured Hibernians got three points while condemning Birkirkara to their sixth defeat of the season in just 11 outings.

It was a nervy encounter characterised by plenty of fouls which resulted in two expulsions, one for each side, and a lack of goal-scoring opportunities throughout the 90 minutes.

Mark Miller’s clan broke the duck after the interval, when Failla converted from the penalty spot after Rodolfo Soares’ incursion into the box was illegally halted by Lucas Maia.

With the clock ticking, Birkirkara were desperate to leave the field at least with a point but they lacked skill and structure to pose a real threat. Hibernians kept their composure and left the field as 1-0 victors.

BOV player of the match Marco Sahanek (Hibernians).
