Alicia, a film by Shirley Spiteri Mintoff is one the winners in this year's Gold Knight Film Festival.

This year over 300 entries were received from 30 countries for the Golden Knight Film Festival. A team of six assessors were kept busy during the past weeks sifting through all the entries until they came up with the best 30 productions to be forwarded to the final judging, which took place last week.

The jury awards a golden knight to the best five productions and highly commended certificates to a limited selection of entries which deserve special recognition.

The Golden Knight Festival knows its origins in the late 1950s when the Circle used to organise ‘Film Holidays’ for cine enthusiasts from the UK. At the end of the holiday the visitors competed amongst themselves for the best holiday film on Malta. The success of this venture encouraged the committee to take the bold decision to launch an international festival. The first Golden Knight Festival was held in 1962 with a handful of participants, mainly from the UK. As the years rolled on, however, the Golden Knight gained in stature and prestige and within its first 10 years it attracted participants worldwide.

The Golden Knight is the seventh oldest festival of its kind worldwide.

The show of the winning films and the presentation of awards will be held on Saturday, December 2 at 730pm at the Hotel Le Meridien, St Julians. Entrance is free.

Additional shows for a limited audience will be held between November 28 and 30 at White Light Studios, Birkirkara.
