A famous diamond, linked to French royalty, was sold for nearly $15 million at auction in Geneva on Tuesday.

"Le Grand Mazarin", a 19-carat pink diamond, belonged to the French crown for more than 200 years and was part of its crown jewels.

Another key sale at the auction was a 163 carat flawless D-color emerald-cut diamond necklace, known as "Creation 1", sold for $33,500,000.

It was the largest of its kind to ever be auctioned.

François Curiel, Christie's' chairman Europe and Asia said that his company sold $118 million during the auction and described it as a "great night".
