The Civil Protection Department gets an average of 13.6 calls a day, according to information given by National Security Minister Michael Farrugia in reply to a Parliamentary Question by MP Robert Abela.

This works out to an average of almost 5,000 calls a year, and with 4,440 made in the first nine months of the year, 2017 could set a new record of close to 6,000 calls, if they were to continue at the same rate.

Dr Farrugia noted that the statistics only reflect the number of calls made and not the number of people given assistance.
