Daylight brought with it a better view of the damage a whirlwind caused in parts of Mosta and Naxxar last night.

The high-speed winds completely uprooted a tree in Mosta, which was still lying across a pavement this morning.

A parked car which bore the brunt of a series of falling limestone bricks was still parked in the same location, its hazard lights blinking as bricks weighed down on its crushed bonnet and windscreen.

Damage to the roof of a Lidl store in Mosta could also be clearly seen, with bent metal protuding from the facade.
