The first Smiling with Jerome initiative will take place next week with an open day at the St Monica School in Gżira in aid of poor families in Albania.

The family fun day will take place on November 25 and will feature face painting, a police dog show, the opportunity to take a photograph with a sports car, sumo wrestling, singing and a magic show among others.

Named after the late Jerome Frendo, the initiative will ensure that the money collected on the day will support fellow Europeans who have neither water nor electricity utilities.

As winter approaches, carpets, new woollen jackets and thermal underwear, beanies, scarves, socks and mittens are urgently needed to be sent to these families.

The Smiling with Jerome initiative was founded immediately after the 20-year-old man passed away, so as to continue his legacy by promoting hope and courage.

Jerome was born in 1997 and by the age of 16 - just three months into his Junior College experience - he was diagnosed with bone cancer. After a four-year battle with the disease, he passed away last month, when he was just about to start his second year at university.

During his short-lived life, he inspired several through his positive-outlook despite the difficulties that he was facing.
