American DJ duo The Chainsmokers have won an international award for their headline performance at last summer's Isle of MTV concert.

The two producers won the 'Best World Stage' award at the MTV Europe Music Awards, beating nominees such as the Kings of Leon, Foo Fighters and music festival Tomorrrowland.

Two other 2017 Isle of MTV acts, DJ Steve Aoki and dance-rock band DNCE, were also nominated for the award.

Now in their 24th edition, MTV's EMAs are voted on by fans from around the world in the weeks leading up to the awards.

This is not the first time performances at the Malta-based concert have won artists awards at the MTV EMAs.

Martin Garrix won the Best World Stage award at last year's EMAs, with Wiz Khalifa and Jess Glynne's Isle of MTV performances also nominated.

Enrique Iglesias also won the award in 2014 for his performance that summer. Lady Gaga, LMFAO, Snoop Dogg, Nelly Furtado, Jessie J and Rita Ora have all been nominated for their performances at the Malta concert.

The Isle of MTV concert has been held every year since 2007, becoming a fixture on the local music calendar.
