The University of Malta and the Farsons Foundation have agreed to identify opportunities for collaborative research in a wide range of areas, including engineering, ICT, built heritage, history, economics, management, accountancy, social well-being, labour and food studies.

Both sides will provide input to new and existing courses, continuing professional development in-house courses, ad hoc commissioning of studies, and identifying experts to be involved in different initiatives, such as conservation, restoration and interpretation of Farsons’ old brewery. They will also jointly develop and submit proposals to seek external funding programmes and participate in each other’s events. On its part, Farsons also pledged to sponsor various University departments’ dean’s awards and annual prizes for best theses and dissertations.

The areas of collaboration were outlined in a three-year memorandum of understanding signed by University rector Alfred Vella, Simonds Farsons Cisk (SFC) chairman Louis Farrugia and Bryan Gera, chairman of the foundation’s board of trustees. Also attending the signing ceremony were University pro-rector Godfrey Baldacchino, Antoinette Caruana and Kenneth Pullicino from SFC, and MichaelFarrugia, chief business development officer and director at SFC and a trustee of the foundation.
