New regulations have come into force today for hunters and trappers at Majjistral Park.

Since 2013, hunting and trapping within the Majjistral Park were only permissible up to 10am.

As from today, in September, October and November, the time has been extended to 12.30pm - except for Wednesdays and public holidays, when the time remains 10am.

In December and January, the time limit will also remain unchanged at 10am.

For trappers, the time is being extended to 2.30pm for the whole of the open season.

The Federation for Hunting and Conservation - Malta (FKNK) said that the amendments make the situation more “equitable” for its members, thanking Minister José Herrera and Parliamentary Secretary Clint Camilleri, for “their reasonable understanding of the situation that the Majjistral Park hunters and trappers were exposed to in contrast with hunters and trappers in the rest of the islands”.

The federation said it would continue to discuss regulations regarding fines and penalties, rabbit hunting, and falconry, to ensure that they were also amended.
