AC Milan host defending champions Juventus on Saturday night with the big-spending Rossoneri looking to spark their stuttering season into life.

Milan splashed out more than 200million euros on reinforcements during the summer but currently find themselves down in eighth spot in Serie A, 12 points behind leaders Napoli and nine adrift of third-placed Juve.

Here, Press Association Sport looks at some of the talking points surrounding the match.

10 out of 10 for Juve but Allegri wants more

Juve travel to the San Siro having followed up last weekend's 6-2 mauling of Udinese with a 4-1 thrashing of SPAL on Wednesday, but coach Massimiliano Allegri admits he is still not completely happy despite the 10-goal return. He was critical with aspects of his team's midweek performance and is demanding a reduction in the amount of mistakes they are making. If Juve manage that against Milan - and continue their prolific form in front of goal - then it could be a long evening for the faltering hosts.

Can Milan buck a recent trend?

Juve suffered a 1-0 defeat in their last visit to face Milan at the San Siro - Manuel Locatelli's 65th-minute strike separating the sides last October - but otherwise it has been the Bianconeri who have dominated this fixture in recent years. They have won 10 of the last 12 meetings between the two, with the other game being decided by a penalty shoot-out - Milan winning last December's Italian Super Cup following a 1-1 draw. Milan will have to overcome recent history and form if they are to claim another success over the Turin giants.

Red ruins Bonucci reunion

Leonardo Bonucci's red card against Genoa means the Italy defender is banned for the visit of his former club. How much Bonucci's absence will hurt Milan is a matter of debate, though. The 30-year-old has not had the best of starts with the Rossoneri following his summer switch from Juve and his season reached a new low last weekend when he was sent off after just 25 minutes for elbowing Genoa's Aleandro Rosi. That dismissal earned him a two-match ban but Milan proved they can live without their captain as they thrashed Chievo 4-1 on Wednesday to pick up their first win in five matches.

Pressure easing on Montella?

Having spent big this summer Milan would have expected a much better start to the campaign, with the team already well adrift of the pacesetters in Serie A. That has seen the pressure build on boss Vincenzo Montella, but last weekend's battling draw against Genoa with only 10 men was followed by an impressive away win over Chievo, and a good result now against Juventus could be the springboard to better times for club and coach.

Can Champions League distraction give Milan a Sporting chance?

Allegri admitted on Friday that, at this relatively early stage of the season, the most important game for them now is Tuesday's Champions League trip to Sporting Lisbon. That is because a victory in Portugal would see Juve take a big step towards securing a top-two berth in Group D. It is unlikely the Bianconeri will take their foot off the pedal at the San Siro but Milan - who are not in Europa League action until Thursday - will be keen to make the most of any advantage they can get.
