A contractor whose workers did not bother to lower a dangling tool chest to safety before clocking off work can expect a fine in the post.

The dangerous scene saw motorists heading east on Triq Mons. Alfred Mifsud in Birkirkara pass under a large tool chest left hanging off a crane at a construction site.

"All the workers have left the site for the day," a reader who sent this photo in earlier today said. "Not a good idea, especially on a windy day," they added.

Times of Malta forwarded the photo to the Occupational Health and Safety Authority, with an OHSA official soon confirming the contravention.

"We're now trying to make contact with the contractor to have the danger removed immediately," they said. "But regardless, we have evidence of wrongdoing and they will be getting fined."
