Soprano Marita Bezzina will be performing a lunchtime concert entitled The Ave Marias today in Valletta. She will be accompanied by pianist Ramona Zammit Formosa.

The programme will include a selection of arias with a Marian theme. The selection varies from excerpts taken from operas to Maltese compositions. Most of the composers are renowned international giants of the classical music world, such as Verdi, who wrote his Ave Maria for the opera Othello.

Another renowned composer, Schubert, also wrote an Ave Maria, one of the most well-known Ave Maria compositions. Others include Arcadelt, Caccini, Gounod and one by Maltese composer and musician Silvio Zammit.

The concert will raise funds for the Franciscan church.

The concert will be held today at noon at St Francis church oratory, Republic Street, Valletta. Tickets can be obtained from the venue itself half an hour before the concert begins. For more details, call 7968 0952 or e-mail baroccomalta@gmail.com.
