Electronic Music Malta is holding the first in a series of talks related to copyright and music law at St James Cavalier, Valletta, today.

It will tackle topics such as the rights and laws governing the work of musicians, composers and producers, the sampling of other original works and the difference between mechanical and broadcasting rights. It will also discuss why it is important for anyone composing music to be a member to a rights society and then register his/her published work, and why bars and clubs are obliged to pay a yearly fee to the Performing Right Society (PRS).

Taking part in the two-hour discussion will be Jeanine Rizzo from Fenlex, Luke Dalli from the Arts Council, Steve Vassallo and Martin Pursey from PRS and Joven from DJ duo Tenishia.

The talk will be held in Studio A, St James Cavalier, Valletta, today at 4pm. Admission is free and no booking is required.
