More than three quarters of crimes carried out in Marsa in the last two years were carried out by Maltese, official figures show.

A total of 301 of the 389 people arraigned for crimes in Marsa between 2015 and June 2017 were Maltese nationals, according to Home Affairs Minister Michael Farrugia.

Replying to a parliamentary question by MP Claudio Grech, Dr Farrugia said there were 979 crimes reported during that period, resulting in 283 cases involving 389 people in all.

He said that 88 of those charged were foreign.

Marsa residents have often expressed their discomfort because of the large African community that resides there.
