LIJA A. 0

BIRKIRKARA 2

Montebello 18’, Herrera 90’

After suffering back-to-back defeats to Valletta and Sliema Wanderers, Birkirkara returned to winning ways as they defeated Lija Athletic 2-0 to move to a more comfortable mid-table position.

For Lija, this was the seventh defeat in eight matches and the fourth defeat on the trot, remaining anchored at the bottom of the table with just one point.

The Stripes forged ahead thanks to Luke Montebello who concluded a swift counter attack by entering the area and beating the Lija custodian with a powerful shot from the right.

On the 90th minute, Birkirkara sealed the issue with a second goal when Fabiano Oliveira rounded a defender on the right before serving another substitute, Edward Herrera, with an inviting cross for the latter to slam the ball home past Martinelli.
