Daphne Caruana Galizia's murder has whipped up a national and international news storm, with the debate transcending the threat posed against the fourth pillar of democracy.

Some international media reports seem already to have made up their mind on Malta's reputation, some even describing it as fertile land for the mafia, and a tax haven operating in a politically-corrupt society.

The farcical police press conference on Thursday only helped reinforce the perception that not all is well in the state of Malta.
