European Parliament president Antonio Tajani has invited the Caruana Galizia family to visit the European Parliament in the wake of the car bomb murder of blogger Daphne Caruana Galizia. 

Meanwhile, Manfred Weber, head of the European Popular Party has called for an independent international inquiry into the murder.

Mr Weber, who heads the biggest group in the European Parliament, said in a tweet that the EPP Group is calling for justice and is urging the European Commission to act. 

He said the European Parliament can no longer accept the Maltese government's refusal of transparency in the Panama Papers case. 

The European Commission condemned the murder yesterday.
