The Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses said today it would order industrial action involving all its members if it did not receive a satisfactory government reply by Sunday on talks to counter an acute staff shortage.

The union, which is also protesting over working conditions, has registered an industrial dispute.

It said that if it did not receive the counter proposals about a new sectoral agreement, a schedule of meetings that will lead to the signing of a new agreement by the end of the year and a written guarantee in the form of a legal notice that will see the implementation of the Specialist Framework, it will issue directives on Monday.
